5 Spring Plumbing Checks Every Cleveland Homeowner Should Make

Winter is rough on your pipes, fixtures, and drains. Before the warm weather gets rolling, spend 20 minutes running through these five checks — and save yourself from a much bigger headache later.

Spring Plumbing Tips — Greater Cleveland, OH

1

Inspect Your Outdoor Spigots & Hose Bibs

Freezing temperatures can crack outdoor faucets and the supply lines behind them — and you won't know until you turn one on in spring. Reconnect a hose, turn it on, and check for drips, reduced pressure, or water coming through the wall instead of the spigot. Any of those signs means there's damage behind the siding that needs to be addressed before it causes water intrusion inside your home.

2

Test Your Sump Pump Before the Rain Season Hits

Spring in Northeast Ohio means rain — and lots of it. Your sump pump's job is to keep your basement dry, but many homeowners don't think about it until water is already coming in. Pour a bucket of water into the pit and make sure the float triggers the pump and it evacuates the water quickly. If it hesitates, makes unusual noise, or doesn't kick on at all, get it serviced now — not during a storm at 2am.

3

Check Under Every Sink for Slow Leaks

Cabinet interiors are one of the most overlooked spots in a home. Grab a flashlight and look under every kitchen and bathroom sink for water stains, warped wood, soft spots, or active drips at the supply lines or drain connections. A slow drip is easy to fix when caught early — left alone, it leads to mold, rot, and expensive cabinet or subfloor repairs.

4

Flush Your Water Heater to Clear Sediment

Sediment builds up in the bottom of your water heater tank every year. Over time it forces the unit to work harder, shortens its lifespan, and can cause rumbling or popping sounds, higher energy bills, and inconsistent hot water. Flushing it takes about 20 minutes and extends the life of the unit significantly. If your water heater is 8–12+ years old and you've never had it serviced, spring is the right time to have a professional evaluate it.

5

Run Water in Infrequently Used Drains

Guest bathrooms, basement utility sinks, and seasonal laundry tubs often sit unused all winter. When a drain trap dries out, it allows sewer gases — including hydrogen sulfide — to enter your home. Simply running water for 30 seconds in every drain you haven't used recently refills the trap and blocks those gases. While you're at it, check that the drains are flowing freely and not sluggish, which can signal a partial clog building deeper in the line.

Thanks so much for your wonderful service!

This place is great – In and out quickly, and the technicians, Dale and Chase, were respectful, exceptionally kind and even really funny too. They created a safe and welcoming environment and explained everything very simply, in a way that was easy to understand. I would definitely use this company again, as this was a great experience. They even squeezed us in for a same day appointment, which was great. You guys are the best – Thanks so much for your wonderful service!
