Drains That Keep Coming Back Slow After Snaking

If you’ve had a drain snaked and it’s slow again within weeks or months, the snake only punched a temporary hole through the blockage, it didn’t remove it. Grease, soap scum, and organic buildup cling to pipe walls and close back in around a snaked opening. Hydro jetting cleans the full interior circumference of the pipe so buildup has nothing left to reattach to.

Grease Buildup in Kitchen or Restaurant Drain Lines

Kitchen drain lines, residential and commercial alike, accumulate grease faster than any other type of drain. Cooking fats congeal on pipe walls, trap food particles, and progressively narrow the drain opening until flow stops entirely. Hydro jetting is the only method that reliably removes hardened grease buildup from the full pipe wall, not just the center channel.

Root Intrusion in Sewer or Drain Lines

Tree and shrub roots enter pipes through cracks and joints, then grow and branch out to fill available space. A snake can cut through a root mass, but the root structure left on the pipe wall will grow back quickly. High-pressure jetting cuts roots at the pipe wall and flushes the debris downstream, significantly slowing regrowth and buying more time before the next service is needed.

Slow Drains Across Multiple Fixtures

When several drains throughout a home or building are running slow at the same time, the problem is almost always in the main line, not individual fixture traps. Main line buildup in older Cleveland-area properties can accumulate over decades. Hydro jetting clears the full diameter of the main line in a way that snaking simply cannot achieve.

Preparing a Line for Inspection or Lining

Before a camera inspection can give accurate results, or before a trenchless pipe liner can be properly installed, the line needs to be clear and clean. Hydro jetting is the standard preparation method for both, it removes debris and buildup so the camera captures true pipe condition and the liner bonds correctly to clean pipe walls.

Why Northeast Plumbiing

Our Hydro Jetting Process

Need Help Now

From a clogged, buildup-coated line to pipe walls that are clean all the way through — here's what working with Northeast Plumbing looks like.

When Snaking Isn't Enough

A drain snake is a useful tool for a straightforward clog. It works by pushing a cable through the pipe and breaking through whatever is blocking the flow. What it doesn’t do is clean the pipe. The buildup coating the walls, grease, mineral scale, soap residue, organic matter, stays in place, and the opening the snake creates closes back in over time. That’s why drains that have been snaked repeatedly tend to clog again faster each time.

Hydro jetting works differently. A specialized nozzle delivers high-pressure water, typically between 1,500 and 4,000 PSI depending on pipe size and material, in a 360-degree spray pattern that scours the full interior surface of the pipe. Grease is emulsified and flushed out. Scale is broken up and carried away. Root material is cut at the pipe wall. What’s left is a pipe that flows the way it did when it was new, not a pipe with a hole through the middle of years of accumulated buildup.

Before any hydro jetting job, we run a camera through the line. This matters for two reasons: first, we need to confirm the pipe is structurally sound enough to handle the pressure, heavily deteriorated or cracked pipe can be damaged by high-pressure jetting. Second, the camera tells us exactly what we’re dealing with, grease, roots, scale, or some combination; so we can set the right pressure and nozzle configuration for the job. We don’t jet blind. After the work is done, we run the camera again so you can see the before-and-after condition of the line for yourself.

Leak Detection FAQs

What's the difference between hydro jetting and snaking?

Snaking uses a mechanical cable to break through a blockage and restore flow, it doesn’t clean the pipe walls. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the entire interior surface of the pipe, removing buildup, grease, roots, and scale from wall to wall. Snaking is faster and less expensive for a simple clog; hydro jetting is the right choice for recurring blockages, heavy buildup, or lines that need to be fully clean rather than just temporarily open.

Yes. For pipes in sound structural condition. That’s why we camera the line before jetting. Severely deteriorated, cracked, or partially collapsed pipe can be damaged by high-pressure water, and we’ll tell you if that’s the case before we start. For pipes in acceptable condition, hydro jetting is safe and effective for cast iron, PVC, clay tile, and most other common pipe materials.

For most residential properties, hydro jetting every 1 to 3 years is sufficient to prevent heavy buildup from accumulating. Restaurants and commercial kitchens, which generate significantly more grease, typically benefit from jetting every 3 to 6 months depending on volume. We can recommend a maintenance schedule based on your property’s drain history and usage.

Hydro jetting cuts root material at the pipe wall and flushes it out of the line, which is more effective than snaking. However, if roots have entered through a crack or broken joint, they will regrow over time because the entry point remains. Hydro jetting buys significantly more time between root issues than snaking does, but if root intrusion is recurring, a camera inspection to assess the pipe’s structural condition, and potentially a lining or repair, is the long-term solution.

Yes. We jet commercial kitchens, restaurant grease lines, floor drains, main sewer lines, and multi-unit residential properties. Commercial drain lines typically require higher pressure and more frequent service than residential, we’re equipped for both and can set up a recurring maintenance schedule for commercial accounts.

Called at 11pm with a flooded basement. Tech was at my door in under an hour, had it fixed by 1am, and didn't charge me a cent extra for the time. Unreal service.

We use them for all our commercial properties. Fast, reliable, and they actually show up when they say they will. That alone puts them ahead of most contractors.
