Kitchen Sink Draining Slowly or Not at All

Kitchen drains handle grease, food particles, soap, and debris every day, and that accumulation builds up on pipe walls faster than most homeowners expect. A slow kitchen drain is usually a warning before a full blockage. A drain that won’t move at all means the line is blocked and nothing downstream is draining properly either.

Leak Under the Kitchen Sink

Moisture in the cabinet under your kitchen sink, whether it’s pooling water, a damp cabinet floor, or a musty smell, almost always points to a failing supply line connection, a deteriorated drain basket, a cracked P-trap, or a garbage disposal seal that’s given out. Left unaddressed, the water damage spreads to the cabinet, the subfloor, and sometimes the ceiling of the room below.

Garbage Disposal That Won't Run, Hums Without Grinding, or Leaks

A disposal that’s dead, jammed, or leaking from the base or the connection to the drain is one of the most common kitchen plumbing calls we get. Some disposals can be reset or cleared; others are worn out and need replacement. We diagnose the issue on the spot and give you a straight answer on whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

New Kitchen Fixture or Appliance That Needs Professional Installation

A new faucet, an undermount sink, a dishwasher, a refrigerator ice maker line, a pot filler, or a whole kitchen remodel, any fixture or appliance that connects to your water supply or drain system needs a licensed plumber to do the connections properly. Improper installations void warranties, create leaks, and sometimes violate code.

Low Water Pressure at the Kitchen Faucet

If water pressure at the kitchen faucet is noticeably weaker than other fixtures in the house, a clogged aerator is the most common cause, but it can also indicate a supply line issue, a partially closed shutoff valve, or a failing faucet cartridge. We identify the actual cause rather than replacing parts until something works.

Why Northeast Plumbiing

Our Kitchen Plumbing Process

Need Help Now

From your first call to a fully functioning kitchen, here's what working with Northeast Plumbing looks like.

The Kitchen Is the Hardest-Working Plumbing in Your Home

The average kitchen sink handles more daily use than almost any fixture in the house, dishes, food prep, handwashing, filling pots, running the disposal. That volume of use means kitchen plumbing wears faster, clogs more frequently, and develops problems that compound quickly when ignored. A slow drain left alone becomes a full blockage. A small drip under the sink becomes cabinet rot. A leaking dishwasher connection becomes a flooring replacement.

Northeast Plumbing handles the full range of kitchen plumbing work: faucet repair and replacement, sink installation, garbage disposal repair and replacement, drain clearing and repiping, supply line replacement, dishwasher connection and installation, refrigerator ice maker lines, and full kitchen rough-in for remodels. We carry commonly needed parts on the truck, faucet cartridges, supply lines, P-trap assemblies, disposal units, so most kitchen plumbing repairs are completed in a single visit without ordering parts and coming back.

Kitchen plumbing in Greater Cleveland’s older homes often has its own layer of complexity, original galvanized drain lines that have narrowed significantly over decades, supply shut offs under the sink that haven’t been touched in years and no longer close fully, or drain configurations that were modified at some point and never quite worked right. We’ve seen all of it. When we diagnose your kitchen’s plumbing, we look at the full picture, not just the one thing that’s visibly broken, and tell you honestly what’s worth addressing now versus what can wait.

Kitchen Plumbing FAQs

Why does my kitchen drain keep getting slow even after it's been cleared?

Recurring slow kitchen drains are almost always a buildup issue, not a blockage issue. Grease, soap residue, and food particles coat the interior pipe walls and gradually narrow the drain opening. Snaking punches a temporary hole through the buildup, hydro jetting removes it from the pipe walls entirely. If your kitchen drain comes back slow within a few weeks of being cleared, jetting is usually the right long-term answer.

Yes. If we’re already under the sink for a drain issue and your disposal is aging or underperforming, we can assess it and swap it out in the same visit. We carry commonly needed disposal units on the truck. Combining the work saves a second service call.

Often both. A dishwasher that won’t drain may have a clogged drain hose connection at the sink, a blocked air gap, a garbage disposal that needs to be cleared, or a drain line that’s run incorrectly and traps water. It can also be an appliance pump failure. We diagnose the plumbing side, if the issue is inside the appliance itself, we’ll tell you clearly so you know whether to call an appliance tech.

Faucet replacement typically takes one to two hours. Removing the old unit, installing the new one, connecting supply lines, and confirming no leaks. Sink replacement is more involved, especially if it’s a different configuration than what’s currently there, undermount vs. drop-in, single vs. double basin, or a different cutout size. We assess the scope when we see the space and give you upfront pricing before starting.

Yes. Pot filler installation requires running a new water supply line inside the wall to the position above the range, it’s not a simple swap. We assess the wall construction and supply line routing during a site visit and provide a firm quote for the work before starting.

Called at 11pm with a flooded basement. Tech was at my door in under an hour, had it fixed by 1am, and didn't charge me a cent extra for the time. Unreal service.

We use them for all our commercial properties. Fast, reliable, and they actually show up when they say they will. That alone puts them ahead of most contractors.
